Don't Should All Over Things

I forgot what business leader I heard this from, but some people "should all over things".

I imagine it means the following. I used to quite often see something that I thought would be a good thing to do, and say to myself "I should do that". Well the more I say to myself "I should do that" instead of doing that, the less I accomplish.

I have a hypothesis about why this happens. When you say "I should do that", it bypasses the executive part of your brain - the part that says, ok the higher ups have decided to do this, so we gotta make it happen. Somehow it mentally ticks a box as though it has been taken care of when in fact it hasn't been taken care of. That task is in lala land, in nobody's domain, it has been pushed out the door of the decision making function of the brain, but never went in the door of the executive.

So here's my advice to you: don't should all over things!
